She came to my place drunk
All her things were on the front porch
Said she wanted to save the world
Well, when do we start?

I brought her things inside
Lit some candles and poured some wine
Same way I do every time

She dangles from the vine
She's looking to find a better world
Doesn't know quite where it's at
But it's a long way back to Hope Springs, Arkansas

We didn't leave the house for three weeks
Then she laid up with the landlord
To help pay the rent
Until I found a job

I painted houses, she slept all day
When I came home she was full
Conversations with myself!

She tangles from the vine
She's off to find a better world
Doesn't know quite where it's at
But it's a long way back to Hope Springs, Arkansas

Now I wake up early
Go down to the loading docks and
Watch as they put televisions and ovens and the oranges
Up on the trucks

They float in and they float away
The sun comes up the sun goes down
Everybody dreams of paying the rent
