Shule, shule, shule aroonShule go succir agus, shule go
kewn,Shule go durrus oggus aylig lume,Shule,
shule, shule aroonShule go succir agus, shule go
kewn,Shule go durrus oggus aylig lume,Iss guh day thoo
avorneen slawn.I wish I was on yonder
hill’Tis there I’d sit and cry my fill,And
every tear would turn a millI'll sell my rod,
I'll sell my reelI'll sell my only spinning
wheelTo buy my love a sword of steelShule, shule,
shule aroonShule go succir agus, shule go kewn,Shule
go durrus oggus aylig lume,Iss guh day thoo avorneen
slawn.I'll dye my petticoats, I'll dye them
redAnd 'round the world I'll beg my
breadUntil my parents shall wish me deadShule,
shule, shule aroonShule go succir agus, shule go
kewn,Shule go durrus oggus aylig lume,Iss guh day thoo
avorneen slawn.Shule, shule, shule aroonShule go
succir agus, shule go kewn,Shule go durrus oggus aylig

agus, shule go kewn,Shule go durrus oggus aylig
lume,Iss guh day thoo avorneen slawn.

The correct lyric is "I'll sell my rock," not "rod." Fly-fishing has nothing to do with the case. "Rock" is an archaic word for "distaff." (Compare German "Spinnrocken.") The singer is selling her distaff, reel and spinning wheel, her only wherewithal to earning a living, to fit out her love for war, and so she will be left to "beg [her] bread" in disreputable circumstances.
