I am a great explorer and I come from Genoa town / With a fleet of wooden sailing ships financed by the crown / The men who hold the stocks and bonds, they all must be repaid / With plundered prizes of the soil, with spices gold and slaves / For thirty-three long days and nights we sailed across the sea / Rodrigo he first spotted land but I lied and said it was me / On the shores of Hispaniola a crowd of Indians came / To welcome weary strangers from our home so far away / Onward Christian soldiers, we came for slaves and gold / to a brave new world of savages, we need to save their souls / With cannon, sword and the Holy word upon this land we trod / And we dedicate our wondrous fate to the glory of God / They gave us food and water, they showered us with gifts / Their generosity was boundless, our reciprocity was swift / We raped their finest women and worked them in the mines / And cut them down like timber if they dared to question why / We are God’s chosen people, from the land of popes and kings / Our destiny is conquest, we freely take their things / And many a Godless heathen met an early death / We started out with muskets and the smallpox did the rest / Onward Christian soldiers, we came for slaves and gold / to a brave new world of savages, we need to save their souls / With cannon, sword and the Holy word upon this land we trod / And we dedicate our wondrous fate to the glory of God / We ordered all the Indians fourteen years and up / To bring a quantity of gold to us every three months / Those who did got copper coins to hang around their necks / Those who didn’t had their hands cut off and bled to death / The capitalist system in European states / Sent more expeditions to force the hand of fate / This newfound western hemisphere will be forever changed / By conquistadores with guns and swords on this Columbus Day / Onward Christian soldiers, we came for slaves and gold / to a brave new world of savages, we need to save their souls / With cannon, sword and the Holy word upon this land we trod / And we dedicate our wondrous fate to the glory of God / And now it’s been five hundred years and we should be ashamed / For honoring this murderer with a day that bears his name / But history, it seems to me, is told from the point of view / Of merchants, kings and conquerors, not the beaten, killed and used / Onward Christian soldiers, we came for slaves and gold / to a brave new world of savages, we need to save their souls / With cannon, sword and the Holy word upon this land we trod / And we dedicate our wondrous fate to the glory of God
