Could you listen for a while to the autumn wind and tell me will the leaves turn like they used to -
cause I’ve been running all my life from sweet embraces, places growing hazy in my view -
it don’t get too cold round here, leaves don’t burn, the smell of snow is no longer clear -
and I’m sitting guilty in this sunny state thinking bout the bitter prairie wind song in my ears,
Tell me do you know and would you take me home, cause I can’t do it on my own.
Thought about her late last night, so thin and proud - her desperation hanging to her feet.
Held her painted face up high and promised me those special things I wanted to believe -
And she said, you can come and be with me, when I finally find the perfect job that I can keep,
We’ll be a family once again when I find that movie man who’ll tell me who to be,
Tell me do you know and would you take me home, cause I want the things that I can’t own.
Why do I believe, an empty darkness holds the only comfort I can feel,
if I could fly away, I’d never have to see the best in me that’s truly real,
would you take me home,
cause I can’t do it on my own.
