I adored this poem when it came out in the 80's. it also accompanies the credits to an old "The Sopranos" episode that I saw recently. Made me want to burst into tears for some reason. Very raw.

I just read this after the election. Seems newly relevant now. If you play about with it Gordon Brown can be substituted for some of the original words to great effect. Try it. I got through a whole sentence without saying'fuck'! - damn!

He always said the word 'fuck' is alot more percussive and rhythmic than bloody, that was the main reason he used it originally. For me, no other passage of words sums up the shattering monotony of a meaningless life in a nowhere town with that same dry wit and humour.
