  The urdu in the song is very non-colloquial. Probably because as someone said the song is based on a poem. Urdu literature is very, very idiomatic and metaphorical and is known to be more farsi than urdu itself - the expressionism i mean.

  This is definitely Urdu. I speak Urdu. Urdu is derived from Farsi and Arabic, so yeah its got many words from farsi. Eshq means love in Urdu as well. And its Mohabbat not Mahbet.

  I beg to differ: It's not Farsi. I speak Farsi and I can tell you for sure that this song is not in Farsi.

  Mahbet means 'kindness', and it's actually Arabic (in Farsi, the cognate 'Mohabat', but the word is still Arabic).

  There are a lot of cognates that exist in Farsi and Urdu since both languages have a common root. For example:

  Farsi/Urdu:
  Eshq/Ishq (Love)
  Donia/Dunia (World)
  Khoda/Khuda (God)
  qonche (flower bud)
  Del/Dil (heart)
  etc.

  The song is actually based on an Urdu poem by written by the 18th century Indian Poet Khwaja Mir Dard:

  YES this is Farsi
  Ishq is the word for love in Persian. The word for love in Urdu is Mahbet.

  This actually isn't Farsi. It might be Urdu, but the transliteration seems to be correct (at least to my ears). Any Urdu-speaking person out there that can confirm or refute what language this song is in?

  This is in Farsi... not Arabic. But yes, Google Translate does not always do well with transliteration into Arabic characters, because there are many different sounds and "a" can stand for a couple different Arabic Alphabet letters.

  I wish I could help in translation but I do not speak Farsi.

  Ok. Google has improved on this since I last tried it. lol. Here is what it comes up with when I switch the transliterated into the script for Persian. No idea how right or wrong it may be, just going by what Google says.

  oops...I didn't mean to imply the song is in Arabic, just the base script. Forgive me if I am ignorant on the nuances of the language, but I guess that is what the base script would be referred to, no?

  Even if the lyrics were given in their original script, I imagine that might work too? Google Translator isn't so bad, though it tends to butcher the Arabic. But still better than nothing, I suppose.
