I heard mute voices mouthing prayers to unknown ones
Whose mouths had once prayed to gods in the songs of broken tongues
I heard drum breaks roll from the edge of the falling heights
Cascading sounds colliding devouring up by the night
I heard the snap of wings beat as the flocks spread west
I stood and listened to the silent echo that it left

I heard the poison moaning inside the depths of me
I felt it turning like driftwood on dead seas
Until I heard it take root and branch fruit against the skies
For my empty hands to pick them free of claps and of cries
And overcome and overrun I remembered once again the fear
The fear of being alone the fear of never leaving here
