The Rosebuds Follow

The leaves around us start to swirl on Christmas morning
They're running circles round our bed up thru the chimney smoke
And all the lights have all gone off without a warning, warning warning

The owls lay quiet in their homes inside the oak trees
We're writing backwards in the snow, the smell of kerosine
And we were trying to get up, but I was falling, falling, back to sleep

And all the lovers on the rugs, trying to stay warm
They're holding hands, forgetting words, and stumbling down the halls
