I used to go down to that corner drug store,
Drop my quarter in my little wild stallion horse,
My mind would take out across the western plains,
Lord, I'd like to ride my little quarter horse again.

Cause oh how I thought I was Gene and Roy,
No there never was a hero like a real cowboy,
And now I know, I can't go back,
That's a little too much of course,
But if I could, I surely would like to ride my quarter horse.

Oh a child's imagination can take them anywhere,
Sometime a dream is better than really going there,
And quarter horses are wonderful, they are a special breed,
But they'll never be another little quarter horse for me.
