Well, I went to the river to get baptized, got down there it was damn near dry
Waded in up to my calves, then I saw Tom Sawyer goin’ by on a raft
I called out “Tom, hey where you goin’?” He shook his head said “I don’t know”
“This river used to be wide and deep, now I’m running aground and it haunts my sleep”

Survival is every animal’s goal, so man’s big brain invented a soul
To save him from his awful fate, damn near everybody took the bait
