I Have Had Singing lyrics
The singing.
There was so much singing then,
and this was my pleasure too.
We all sang,
The boys in the fields,
The chapels were full of singing, always singing.
Here I lie.
I have had pleasure enough.
I have had singing.

The lyrics originated from a book, 'The Voices of Akenfield' by Ronald Blythe, first published in 1969. It's a collection of character sketches, of a Suffolk village, and the lines in question are spoken by a 'hardworking 81-yr old horseman'.
They're lovely, evoking a pastoral time, in the early 20th century, when village life was very public. The human voice lifted in pleasure daily, be it song carried over the hills when one was hard at work farming, belted out in a gather in the pub at night, or the pouring of patient joyous harmony of ancient hymns on Sunday - these were the sounds of humanity marking time as it had for centuries.
Song is good for the soul.
