Black Swan lyrics

black swan

what will grow crooked you can't make straight
it's the price that you've gotta pay
do yourself a favor and pack your bags
buy a ticket and get on the train
buy a ticket and get on the train

'cause this is fucked up, fucked up
'cause this is fucked up, fucked up

people get crushed like biscuit crumbs
and laid down in the bitumen
you have tried your best to please everyone
but it just isn't happening
no, it just isn't happening

and that is fucked up, fucked up
well this is fucked up, fucked up

this is your blind spot, blind spot
it should be obvious, but it's not
(but it isn't, but it isn't)

you cannot kickstart a dead horse
you just cross yourself and walk away
i don't care what the future holds
'cause i'm right here and i'm today
with your fingers you can touch me

i am your black swan, black swan
(but i made it to the top, but i made it to the top)
and this is fucked up, fucked up
be a black swan, black swan
and for spare parts, we're broken up

you are fucked up
fucked up
this is fucked up
fucked up
we are black swans
black swans
I'm for spare parts
broken up

What I'm about to say is not a criticism, instead, it is an observation and appreciation of inspirations between musicians and artists.

If one has been following Bjork's music though out, you can hear Bjork's use of electronic and computer instruments in Thom's experiments as well, so does his singing style in terms of prolonging single word with multiple tones. Thom has openly admired Bjork's artistry in music achievement in originality and creativity.

But Thom's creativity and originality thrives from being inspired, he borrows the paints and make them into his own art piece and own expression, this is why my admiration goes all the way out to him. He takes his art very seriously with fun and open mind.

you can hear that he's saying "fucked up" if you blast it
    as i do :]

Problem is thom doesn't finish words, he draws them out and then they trail off, i think this is where a lot of misheard lyrics come from.
From Wikipedia: The Black Swan theory (in Nassim Nicholas Taleb 's version) refers to a large-impact, hard-to-predict, and rare event beyond the realm of normal expectations.

bla bla bla..............лл you say hahaha that is a thing that you can't take with your brain

with most music people should make their own assumptions. its possible black swan is anti-labour (LoL) but more likely black swan is anti Bush.

Isn't a black swan something that can't be predicted, something that goes against the predicted trends?

    To Nallie:

You are overthinking this. Most radiohead songs don´t spoke direct to your rational side. Shure you can brake into little pieces and try to "make" a sense to it, as you can do with a dream an most art types of expression - instead you could just "feel it", an let it spoke to you rather than trying to understand what he meant. I´m shure thom never meant this, but listem to jimi hendrix´s "hear my train a´comming" - just a person trying to change HIS world...

    Hi,
I'm french and I don't always get the meaning for the lyrics of radiohead's songs...
Do you thing, like many other songs of the album the eraser, this one is a criticism to Tony blair's policy ?
And if so, is Thom by saying " i'm a black swan" meaning he's some kind of a spine to Blair's foot ?

The song is influenced by the Black Swan concept introduced by the philosopher Karl Popper. It relates to a very unusual event (like seeing a black swan, when you are used to only seeing white swans) which you do not anticipate or prepare for because they are so unusual you don't think about them. The critical lines of the song therefore are:

'this your blind spot, blind spot
it should be obvious, but it's not'

Great song - my favourite on the album.

Do you all agree he is ahead of his time? I still drift on Spinning plates and Fog; and there he comes with this amazing album!! speechless

This song is fucking awesome! (not 'far' awesome!)

    one correction:

"and laid down in the bed you've made"

    should be

"and laid down in the bitumen"

this song tells it exactly like it is with uncomromisng clarity, this is the kind perspective needs more air time, and to such a dark funky groove... the guitar is full of character, and the slides on the bass are bitchin, there's even a little bit of choppy hyper-jungle amenism on there for you snare lovers, thom yorke is a
and you definatly can hear the 't' at the end of fucked...

I'm like 90% positive he's saying fucked up, and that it is broken up not broken hearts.. If you listen you can hear the "ked" at the end.. it's just quiet.. I'm perrrrty sure. We'll see if Thom every wants to tell us..
