I happen to be free I say
Every time she calls me
I am game for anything today
That's what I tell her

Though I had appointments
I cancelled, not important
Yes let's head up to the park
It's not inconvenient at all

I held my breath and didn't ask
The question that I always mask
A picture perfect day as friends
She said "Are you free Wednesday?"

I happen to be free I say
Though that's not really true
Another in my calendar erased and I write
Joe's Cafe at two

Lucinda 'bout that two o'clock
I'm sorry something else came up
I can't commit to much these days
Have you ever felt this way?

When your hope is subtle and in check
When you're half at peace, half a wreck
Time so sweat and incomplete
Every day of every week

And again I find
I've drawn a heart around her name
